"We don’t have cooking supplies in our school program and my classroom is not very big.”
For our onsite excursions, Edible History supplies all cooking ingredients and cooking supplies. If the classroom setting is not the ideal place for setting up our temporary cooking stations, we will work with schools to find another on-site spot. Students are generally in stations in groups of six. Our maximum group size per session is 25 students with accompanying school adult facilitator as an active participant.
“I’m nervous about students using real kitchen tools.”
Safety is our #1 priority. Before each cooking session, students are given a tutorial on the appropriate way to use all kitchen tools followed by a conversation on expectations. Prior to session, we shared permission slips that need to be signed by caretakers to ensure a common understanding and expectations of safety precautions.
“Some of my students have food allergies.”
In writing, notify us at least 1 week ahead of on-site excursion of any food allergies and we will discuss accommodations.
“How do you coordinate the social studies, cultural competency, and cooking experience?”
Our programs are aligned to the national social studies and the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) curriculum guidelines through our PCA™ Framework.
Here is an outline of the process used when you partner with us:
1. Review our menu of options offered and complete our questionnaire .
2. Within 3 business days, we will respond to your questionnaire and move forward with an agenda and introductory package.
